O. P. I would prefer something beside Apple product. Something like those product I mentioned above. Thanks to the feedback so far. Anybody can comment about WD Live TV? It must have a very good reason why most people talking about that Media Player over the other brand. So far I am leaning toward WD Live TV. Any comment anybody?

If you want NFS network streaming, stay away from DUNE. Its notoriously finicky at getting it to work, and usually doesnt. Please help... My only suggestion would be to stay away from the companies that are not known or not reputable brands. Going by the feature set only might mean not to get future support when things go wrong or change. I bought a WDTV SMP for the Mrs to use. Very easy to to use.

Although it has some minor issues, I know that WD is a reputable company and it will be around (at least) over the next 3- 4 years to push out regular updates. I have the WDTV Live Plus (IIRC its the generation 2) and WDTV Live SMP (Streaming Media Player). The former I firmwared to WDLXTV but seldom used it now. The later is stable so far.

Lots of different themes for it to make the GUI prettier. Plays many types of files but I only use MKVs and ISOs. There is a thread here in WP.

If you are not in a hurry to buy one, have a read: /forum- replies. It has HDMI out (it does have composite audio/video out as well), optical audio out, ethernet, built- in Wi. Fi, 2 USB 2. 0 ports (one at back, other in front, NO USB 3.

P, not 1. 08. 0i) MKVs and recently I figured out how to change the subtitles of BRs to ITX formate and mux these to the BR MKVs so you can show/hide them (BR subtitles are in SUP format that MKV cannot use). I don't know whether it will play BR ISO files, but will definitely play DVD ISOs, essentially the same functionality like menus, scene selections etc as you would get with a physical DVD in a DVD player. One claveat. I tried streaming 1. Haven't tried it again for a few months now. Now, having said all that ATM I'm toying with the idea of a mini. HTPC, something comparable to a HP Proliant Microsever!

O. P. Da*n!!! This website is very good. The one you gave me.

But too many and too complicated for me to understand all of them. At the end... which chipset is best. Sigma or Realtek? WDTV 2. 01. 1 use Sigma now. O. P. Anybody know if WDTV Live is picky over copyright issue? Just wondering...

Other question. Anybody compared WDTV Live against Seagate Go. Flex TV? I will go out on a limb and say this.. Audio passthrough etc and 1.

What more can you ask for? I mean I cant see the downside to a little pocket device which can play any file, streamed or locally stored. Please I own Apple products and people will tell you about the ATV2 or 3.

Seriously, you got to jailbreak to make it run XBMC and still I dont see the advantage. Apart from being able to tell people you own another apple product.

You wont regret it.. HDMI Output – CHECKUSB Port – Reads all formats but I mainly use NTFS + 2 x USB ports, front and back – CHECKTakes external hdd, 2 x USB ports – CHECKFULL HD 1. DTS, DOLBY etc audio passthrough to receiver – CHECKEthernet port is 1. M, perfectly fine for streaming and can be networked with WIN7, LINUX possibly mac as well – CHECKUSB 3.

None. DLNA Certificate – Not sure what you mean. Go for it.. Just wondering... Other question. Anybody compared WDTV Live against Seagate Go. Flex TV? I have never had an issue with copyright issue, it does not contain that within its programming. Not like the PS3 and its Cinivia BS.

No experience with the Seagate and personally never heard of them making a media player. Anybody know if WDTV Live is picky over copyright issue? Are U asking whether it will reject the ISO/MKV users make of copyright movies? Hmmm.. good Q. In my case it plays them alright. If a member State chooses to do so, it must also introduce a compensation for the copyright holders. In all of Europe, except for a few exceptions (the UK, Malta..) the compensation takes the form of a levy excised on all the machines and blank materials capable of copying copyrighted works. Making copies for other people, however, is forbidden, and if done for profit can lead to a jail sentence.

This is also true for Sweden and Poland and most European countries. All of them have introduced a private copying levy, except for Norway, that compensates the owners directly from the country's budget.

Avermedia Averlife Extreme Vision Media Player Full HDAstone players. Any comment from anybody WDTV compared to these? I've been very happy with the Partiot Box Office. Runs everything I've thrown at it. Interface is a little clunky, really neesd to be running a modded firmware to get the most out of it. But as a base media player it's beeen great : )Cheers,A Popcornhour will play anything that you throw at it. Has a large wiki and plenty of support.

Mick Dundee writes.. Popcornhour. I'm sure its good. But its over $3. 00, without a HDD.

From my point of view, might as well get a HP Proliant Microserver with spaces for 4x HDDs and convert that into a HTPC (eg putting in a $5. GPU, add an OS), which will definitely play almost anything.. Well, that's my opinion anyway. However, if one has a PC already and an external HDDs, the WDTV or something similar in its price range could be perfect. Mick Dundee writes.. A Popcornhour will play anything that you throw at it. Totally agree. I have the WDTV LIVE and its buggy.

Firmware upgrades have taken the ability to keep the AUTO playback of frames rates and my video set up profile. No real biggie, but its a cheaper Media player, 1 I dont regret buying, just wish they would fix this bug.
